ÑASAINDY BARRETT DE ARAÚJO

Ñasaindy em aniversário da Irmã, filha de sua mãe adotiva Damaris

Em Cuba
Born on April 4, 1969, in Havana, Cuba. Daughter of Paraguayan Soledad Barrett Viedma and Brazilian José Maria Ferreira de Araújo. Orphaned by father and mother, she was raised by a family, composed of mother and 3 brothers, Brazilians, who were exiled in Cuba.
“... I grew up being told only to the part of the story of the disappearance and later the death of my real parents. Growing up, it became a necessity to know more about their lives and the possible family members I still had ... ”
At the age of 14, she meets his relatives from his father. With their help and some coincidences, he meets an aunt, Soledad's sister, when she already had his first daughter and over 20 years old. She starts a slow, slow, but progressive approach, with his family on the mother's side.
“... All these processes, since my birth, the separation from my parents, living in Cuba, coming to Brazil, the sad encounter with“ wild ”capitalism, among other hundreds of experiences, are alive within me and I feel that they are important, that they are a piece, another part of the history of the dictatorship ... ”
Because she lived until the age of 26 as a “ghost” citizen in Brazil, as she had no documents, she had difficulty studying, learning a profession and, as she says, “building her identity”. Over time, other children came and the experiences with motherhood led her to promote a face-to-face meeting with the pains that she could no longer ignore, in order to overcome some traumas.
This script was born as a result of a long process of growth overcoming and healing, in search of the image of her mother, meeting her roots and herself. It is born out of a strong impulse with two main objectives: First, to preserve the family history at the same time that it wishes to present it to the world, and then, to end a cycle of growth and reconstruction.
Today, aged 50 and 4 children (Yalis Barrett Drummond (32), Ivich Barrett Queirolo (25), Habel Davi de Araújo López (23) and Diana de Araújo López (21), Ñasaindy resides in Olinda, Pernambuco, Brazil, and graduated in Pedagogy, visual artist, writer and collaborator, and participates in projects related to Human Law and the rescue of her family's memory.
